Fun Things to Do After the Lockdown

As ours and many other countries remain in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s natural to feel restless or irritable from being cooped up indoors. This is what’s commonly known as cabin fever. Like the virus, the quarantine and the cabin fever will pass. One way of dealing with cabin fever is by being optimistic and keeping your mind busy, and thinking of what you’ll do once the pandemic is over. Here are some ideas.

  1. Go on a Road Trip

After we get the “all clear” and it’s safe to go outside, a road trip is a great way to get yourself some much-needed change of scenery. The road trip doesn’t have to be across several states or to the next state, it can be as close as going to a nearby tourist attraction as soon as they’ve opened up. Think of the souvenirs you can get when you can go there.

  1. Get a Boat

Another fun thing to do after the pandemic has passed is going to a nearby marina and renting a boat with a couple of friends or family members. Do some research to find the nearest location. If you want to take your boat-riding plans a step further, see if you can invest in a pre-loved boat. Use this time to look up boating marinas at Grand Lake, Oklahoma, for example, to pre-pick a boat to rent or buy. You can then make a list of whom to take along and what activities you can do.

  1. Visit the Amusement Park

Going to the nearest amusement or theme park is sure way to reconnect with your inner child. It would quite a change from being cooped up inside your home. Some have even suggested it can be a way to connect with someone romantically or experience a “different” kind of scary.  Think of the rides you can go line up for again, like the roller coaster, merry-go-round, and Ferris wheel. Go easy on the food, though; it’s easy to gain pounds with all the calorie-rich corn dogs and cotton candy. If you can’t go there with a special someone after the lockdown, bring a couple of your best buddies.

  1. Go Bowling

The local bowling alley is definitely worth a visit. After being stuck indoors for so long, the thud of a bowling ball and its ensuing crash into pins can be quite soothing. Bring along a couple of friends or family members for a few friendly games. Try making a mini-tournament of it with the loser buying pizza after the game.

  1. Go Hiking or Biking

After the lockdown, going on a nature or bike trail is perfect for getting fresh air while taking in the scenery. Go on foot or on bikes with family or friends. Find a picnic spot if you like and take along some light snacks.

Exactly when the crisis is over and it’s safe to go outside again remains unclear. In the meantime, keep a positive outlook and note that making a list of the things you’d like to do when the situation improves. Use this as a way of keeping your spirits up. For now, stay safe, practice social distancing and stay indoors.
